StandBy Response Service

The StandBy Response Service is a suicide postvention service. We support people who have lost a loved one to suicide.

The kinds of help available include:

  • 24 / 7 phone support (response within 3 hours of call)
  • Face to face support with assessing individual needs
  • Referral pathway to other services based on individual needs
  • Information to help you get through this very difficult time

Who can access StandBy & when

  • People in the Canberra area bereaved by a suicide in this region
  • People in the Canberra area bereaved by a suicide that occurred somewhere else
  • Non local people bereaved by a suicide that occurred in the Canberra area

There is no time limit on when you can access the service. The suicide may have occurred months or even years ago.


Free, the StandBy Response Service is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aging to provide support to people bereaved by suicide.
