Ambulance Support Program

Description

The Ambulance Support program, managed by supportLink IT, provides social support to all employees of the ACT Ambulance Service (ACTAS) and their families on personal, work related or family issues.

Background

The Ambulance Support Program was launched on the 12th of August, 2009, after staff surveys conducted by the ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety and the Transport Workers Union identified a desire from ACTAS staff to significantly enhance welfare support arrangements which recognise the unique services provided on a 24/7 basis.

Examples of support available

Regarding personal issues:

  • Support following the death of a family member
  • Discussion regarding parenting strategies regarding young children, adolescents and the unique parenting relationship with adult children
  • Guidance regarding relationship struggles
  • Understanding what support services exist within our community
  • Understanding and discussing the demands on families or individuals who are caring for someone who is sick, frail, aged or living with a mental illness or a disability
  • Support following a tragic or unexpected event in your life

Regarding work-based pressures:

  • Discussing reactions to jobs
  • Understanding the very personal and diverse reactions to stress or trauma
  • Working with changes
  • Workplace conflict

Availability

  • Phone based support 24hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • In crisis situations, personal response within an hour.
  • Confidentiality
  • Contact can occur at the workplace or in the privacy of a neutral meeting environment.
